Leakage of LPG cylinders

Hi

Sometimes we find LPG cylinders leaking around the circumferential weld during first filling at LPG bottling plants. Cylinders then sent to labs for failure analaysis. They carry out the leakage test with water and Pneumatic pressure. Most of the times, they could not establish any leakage from the same cylinders.

Why it happens and is their any better method, by which we can establish the leakage.

Re: Leakage of LPG cylinders
Hello,

Happy New Year to every body. You can advise your lab to perform hologen leak testing or Mass Spectrometer Test. These leak testings are more sensitive than others.

You could try a dye penetrant test on the weld and surrounding area. This would probably be the cheapest option and quite easy. Any paint would have to be removed first.

You should clean the weld and HAZ by brush or similar method and try a magnetic particle test, by yoke or prod type. You should perform the pneumatic test under water.

Re: Leakage of LPG cylinders
Hi, and Happy New Year to everybody!
The Pneumatic and Water Leak Test are able to find gross leak (more than 1*10-3 std cc/sec, in normal industrial labs application). For Leak below this value, you can find a pressure decreases but it is very difficult to localize the leak.
Also I suggest you to use Leak Detector in sniffer mode. I suggest to utilise Helium Leak Detector because Helium is a Noble Gas. More normatives (ASNT or EN) permit you to certify also the quantity of leaks with personnel qualified II level or more.
Our company furnish consultancy, automatic systems and services for Leak Test.

Re: Leakage of LPG cylinders
hi to every body

we are looking for the test system used to test the lpg cylinders e.g hydrostatic test system, ultrasonic test system ,corrossion test system and the valve test system.
looking for cooperation

oved signal to noise ratio, characterize, size and analyze defects better with access to several wave mode views and save raw FMC data for higher quality analysis.  Some of the benefits are:
  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
