Test Frequency Of To Measure Thickness Of Zr

Dear All,

Any of you can inform me the test freq to measure the remaining thickness of Zr in Bimetallic tube of our HP. Stripper in Urea Plant by using Eddy Current Instrument. As information, tube is made from SS 310 L Mod and Zr on the inside surface with design thicknes of Zr is 0.7 mm.

Thank you and the information would be highly appreciated.

Re: Test Frequency Of To Measure Thickness Of Zr
Dear Mr.Kuppuswamy,

The Zr-coating is inside the tube of SS 310 and so, the inspection is to be carried out using a ID Bobbin type coil. Will the substrate thickness affect the readings?

And don't all of you think an IRIS system using ultrasonics is much better for this situation?

Regards.

Urea Strippers
The secret is not in one method inspection approach but multiple as both Eddy Current & IRIS should be used. Accurate calibration tubes for the Eddy Current testing and the IRIS inspection is critical. As to the frequency to be used for the inspection depends on the equipment being used as well as the analysis software. We at Steel Test use the TC5700 to inspect these tubes and have achived the desired results

Kind Regards

Re: Test Frequency Of To Measure Thickness Of Zr
Dear S.V.Swamy,

If you use ID Coil, the base material thickness will not have impact on the readings.

I don't have any idea about the limitations and accuracy of iris to carryout the above measurements.

Regards,

: Dear Mr.Kuppuswamy,
It is vital to have the right calibration tubes. We are holding calibration tubes with machined defects between the Zr and the outside surface of the SS. I don´t think it is possible to give a thickness of the Zr layer using eddy current or IRIS. IRIS as an inspection methode, may in this case, suffer from disbonding between the Zr and the SS.

Best regards
