Dear Dhiliban,

I use Einstein II TFT , and my probe index point is 12, if i select index point 12 whilescanning it shows SD: x mm, suppose if i select 0 it shows SD: x + 12 mm, main difference is, in first case you measure sd from 0 of probe, in second case you should measure from index point of probe i.e, 12 towards the weld or other. I did not found any use.

You state that you are a QA/QC Engineer..
Yet you ask this question

Hallo Dhiliban ,

you need the index point to verify the angle of your probe.

How do you control the properties of your probe than ??

During wear of the probe you have chanfe of the angle.

Regards

Andreas

yes, index point is necessary for determining angle of probe.

I think it is right to say angle of beam rather than probe.

Ok, so we've just aquired a transducer ( probe ) what's the first thing we do ? Determine the index point !! Otherwise how will we know what the angle is -> how can we determine where any indications are etc, etc....
Basic trainee knowledge...

'I worked with UT only for two months thats too before 2year's'

But your profile says you are 'ASNT II UT'. Thiis means you have completed the required theoretical and practical training say 120 hours classroom for Level 2 during which time you should have demonstrated your proficiency at basic calibration tasks. Plus 6 months on the job training in which to hone your skills.

You could also re-read your training notes which must cover determining the maximum sound intensity exit point from probes. Once these basic lessons are learned they should not be forgotten. For a certified UT Level 2 to be asking this question on an open forum brings the certification system into disrepute.

Nigel,

Certification in the industry has been bastardised.
