Manual UT on longi SA240 304L t70mm and forged nozzle

I need your support/point of view.

code: ASME V/VIII D1

1st question:
Which (frequency, type) angle beam longitudinal probe can be used to control longitudinal weld of a shell SA240 304L or 316L, t70, chamfer X (1/3, 2/3), access of the both side?

2nd question:
For joint type D (nozzle to shell t70 304L or 316L), on this project 100% of the volume of the weld to be controlled meaning block described in ASME V article 6 figure T-434.5.1 can't be used.
DAC to be done using method T-434.2.1. However, nozzle are forged nozzle neck (SA965 304L or 316L). So, even if inside diameter and curvature radius allow it, not sure to scan by inside nozzle. I attend to ask mock-up for calibration (SA240/SA965).
What do you think?

Laurent, your first obstacle will be to address the concerns of the material. 304L and 316L are stainless steels, hence the welded versions would be considered coarse-grained. In the 2017 edition of ASME V paragraph T-451 addresses coarse-grained materials and indicates that:
"It is necessary to modify and/or supplement the provisions of this Article in accordance with T-150(a) when examining such welds in these materials."
This infers that you will need to develop an appropriate approach and select the best frequency and angle(s) for the specific application. The procedure can then be demonstrated on the mock-up that you propose to be made.

Your second questions stated that the block in Article 6 Figure T-434.5.1 can not be used (I suspect you meant Article 4). That figure is meant to illustrate how you could examine the vertical fusion line of a set-through nozzle if access from the nozzle inside surface was available. For an extruded nozzle using a butt weld the use of the 0° beam to assess the fusion line is not applicable (because there is no vertical fusion line).
It is not clear what division of Section VIII you are referring to when you simply state VIII D1, however, throughout ASME VIII it clearly states that when using UT in lieu of RT the UT must be using automated or semi-automated UT (not manual).

Understood for UT in place of RT (code case 2235-9).
I'm waiting information on TOFD/phased array on stainless steel t70 mm.

For a set-through nozzle (set-in), for this project, additionally to ASME VIII D1, 100% of the volume of the weld to be controlled. For this set-in joint, chamfer is done on shell (t70). So, block Figure T-434.5.1 article 4 (!!) is not enough. T-434.2.1 to be used to cover 100% of the volume with angle probes.
And as we have forged item not sure 0° can be used.

So for D joint, my question is still valid.
