Hope everyone has started their new year well, in good health and with good expectations !
I would like to inquire whether anybody has any recommendations of what method of NDT to imploy for testing the interior of inservice economizer tubes ( just the U bend ), from the exterior.
The client experienced a tube leak on one of their tubes. They assume it resulted from very small internal pits. We have a sample of the U bend, Evidentally there are very apparent small individual and grouped pits. However, the smallest is 1mm.

You can use Olympus FlexoFORM Scanner and probe for Small-diameter elbows or pipes from 1.3 in. OD up to 4 in. OD. see link https://www.olympus-ims.com/en/scanners/flexoform/#!cms[tab]=%2Fscanners%2Fflexoform%2Fscanning-option

Acoustic Pulse Reflectometry (APR) shall be used for such inspection of economizer tubes that has multiple bends . APR uses only sound waves abs hence its material and configuration independent . For more info : visit www.talcyon.com

I don't know how much access you have to the area of inspection, but simply wiping down the tubes with a solvent and applying a coat of developer could do the trick assuming the tubes are filled with fluid. Just a taught.
