IQI selection problem

Good day, please base on material thickness e.g 24” diameter pipe with 17.5mm thickness using DWSI technique, base on which formular do we know if we are to use either 6FEEN or 10FEEN IQI? wire type using either x-Rays or gamma rays secondly does the sensitivity calculation base on double wall thickness or single wall thickness?

IQI selection depends on the code
ASME - Selection based on single wall thickness
ISO - selection based on (a) nominal thickness of all penetrated walls and (b) Class A or B

Thanks for the swift response, but the the answer is not complete yet, is there any formular to determine the use of 6FEEN or 10FEEN IQI base on the IQI table wire thickness?

First you find the wire size required from the code/standard and then select the appropriate set 6FEEN or 10 FEEN.

The principle of IQI selection is based on the requirement of the applicable specification of the standard and the material type.

As a thumb rule, you first determine the requirement of the standard e.g if the requirement says sensitivity shall be 2% or better - this implies that sensitivity shall be ≤ 2%. applying the formula Sensitivity% = thickness of the smallest wire x 100/Material thickness. by making the thickness of the smallest wire subject of the formula, you will get an approximate value corresponding to the thickness of a wire within IQI range. select the IQI in which the value falls. note that in determining the thickness of material in this case DWSI, you may need to multiply the thickness of the material by 2. also consider the maximum acceptable weld reinforcement. try and let us know your result.

Good see visiblel wire and calculate job purpose sensevity .

it's very simple. Single image double wall technique, dn 609.6 mm, thickness 17.5 mm. I saw that in another post you referred to IQI table T-276, therefore:
step 1: for the thickness 17.5 enter the line of 12.7-19.0 range. We have the wire 8 source side (in your case not applicable) and wire 7 film side, for your case (I imagine the source in contact, on the outside diameter, and therefore IQI - inevitably - film side).
Step 2: from the IQI tables locate the wire 7 just defined in step 1: you are in the line of the fifth wire of the IQI ‘1B’. In the aforementioned disposition of the IQI, you must at least see this wire and you are right.
That's all!

With EN-ISO it is a similar tables mechanism, but thickness crossed (abbreviation w) instead of nominal. There is no table for IQI film-side single wall!
