HDPE pipe ultrasound inspection

Hello Friends,
By any chance does anyone have any experience with ultrasound inspection on HDPE (polyethylene pipe materials), welding through the ERW process. Someone would know me, which technique is most recommended, what type of probes, calibration blocks, technical data, any information is welcome. Thank you all!
Leandro.

Leandro, I am not aware of HDPE pipe being joined using the ERW process. Generally 3 options are used; butt fusion, electrofusion (coupling joints) or glue.
Glued joints are not usually UT tested. The electrofusion joints are tested with a small 0° beam that allows resolution of the wires.
There is an ASTM standard that addresses methods for ultrasonic testing of butt fusion joints (ASTM E3044). That document describes using TOFD and/or phased-array UT. We described some of the issues in articles on NDT.net (https://www.ndt.net/article/ndtnet/2017/1_Ginzel.pdf, https://www.ndt.net/article/ndtnet/2016/11_Ginzel.pdf) whereby we used a low velocity polymer to provide positive refraction in HDPE. You can see the wedge design provided by Innovation Polymers on the NDT.net news item https://www.ndt.net/search/docs.php3?id=23490

Hello Ed, thank you very much for your reply, I will check the documents you mentioned. I believe it's a butt fusion welding. Thank you!
