NDE Level III Recertification

Dear Sirs.
According to ASME Code Sec.V Article 1 Appendix III 2019 Edition the recertification of NDE personnel Levels I, II and III shall be made by examination. Continuing satisfactory performance is no longer acceptable. But on the other hand this paragraph 12.1 of Appendix III do not specify which examination shall be applied (general, specific or practical) and also who should apply it. So, my question is can a NDE Level III be recertified by specific examination only , as described in your written practice ?
Thank you.

Appendix III only applies to personnel using the 2016 Edition of ASNT SNT-TC-1A.

Having said that, if you are to be re-certified by examination, then the implied requirement would be that your examinations that took to be initially certified would have to be re-taken unless the base document (TC-1A) stated otherwise. For Level III, that would mean that you would have to take the method & specific again.

Thanks Mr. William Jensen for your comment.
You may be correct, however, manufacturers using ASME Sec.VIII Div.1 2019 Ed. will have to transition between SNT-TC-1A Ed.2006 to Ed.2016 and Art. 1 Appendice III of ASME Sec.V 2019 Ed. from Jan.2020, for radiographic and ultrasonic testing methods.
I am not sure that a NDE Level III who has been working for years and now changing rules he would have to re-taken all examination again in order to recertified. In this point the Appendix III is not clear. In my opinion, this can be clarified in the Level III employer´s written practice.

Despite having managed to halve the weight of similar portable X-Ray generators available on the market (while continuing to provide the same power output), the SITEX CPSERIES generators feature a shutter, a laser pointer, a beryllium window, an aluminum filter and two integrated diaphragms (customized sizes are available upon request). Without compromising the robustness and reliability for which ICM products are renowned, the small size and light weight of the SITEX CPSERIES will radically change the way that you perform your RT inspections. And you will see a positive impact in terms of both quality and return on investment (ROI).
