Contrast paint thickness

Hi all,

I would like to know how much shall be the thickness of white contrast paint while doing MPI.

Do the thickness of contrast paint affects the sensitivity of the inspection?

Kindly reply.

Thanks in advance.

ASTM E709 and E1444 give you the thickness allowable for parts that are already painting where no paint removal is required. It is clear that contrast paint should not exceed this thickness. Also you have to remember the purpose of contrast paint is to provide a good background for inspection (contrast) and that paint should be applied enough to provide that background yet not excessively.

DEAR NAZRUL
YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT THE CONTRAST PAINT THICKNESS ... IT SHOULD BE WITHIN THE 0.02 MM TO 0.06 MM AND DEFINITELY IF THICKNESS OF THE PAINT IS BELOW THE DESIRED LEVEL THAT SHOULD BE LOW IN VISIBILITY IF THE THICKNESS OF PAINT IS TOO HIGH MEANS IT SHOULD AFFECT THE SENSITIVITY FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU PAINT TOO MUCH IF SOMETHING ROUNDED INDICATION ARE LINEAR INDICATION IS PRESENT IT SHOULD BE DIFFICULT TO INTERPRET SOMETIMES OVER PAINT CAN FILL THE POROSITY ALSO.....
