Hello Ammad Ilyas,
Good day.
Vacuum box testing is a kind of snoop solution testing used to evaluate the weld integrity in Reinforcement pads where we have envelope to build a pressure inside and applying snoop solution outside the welds, whereas in Tanks
annular ring or bottom plate lap joints we don't have the envelope to build a pressure we are using a external box which creates negative pressure by that creating vacuum in that area. Applying a soap film solution or commercial leak detection solution on the weld areas will create the bubbles if there is any leak. By evaluating the formation of bubbles we can able to say its a through thickness leak or minor leak.
Vacuum box testing has no limitation in regards to thickness of the plate under inspection. The only concern will be if there is any unequal thickness joint we need to make sure the vacuum box is coped properly on the surface before applying pressure.
Hope this information helps you.
Regards
