UT on long seam welds of SS Pipes

Hello,

what is the standard practice for Ultrasonic testing of long seam weld of ss pipe(TH is 8mm, OD is 8in)

Hi Boddu,
You should begin by defining the type of inspection you will perform. Weld inspection with code acceptance criteria, or out of code service defect inspection.

If the inspection will be per code:
Follow the applicable code.

Example: Process piping weld inspection usually follows ASME B31.3. This code will refer to ASME Sec. 5 Art. 4, where you can find the information for standard practices for ultrasonic weld inspection.

If the inspection will be to detect in service defects (cracking):
No code is required, however you should be an experienced technician and the client will likely ask to review and approve your companies procedures for ultrasonic inspection. The client may even ask that a specific code be followed.

If you are seeking specific "how to" you should start by reviewing your companies ultrasonic weld inspection procedures, and the codes they reference.
