PAUT ( corrosion mapping) high temperature Solution.

Hi inspectors,
that's my first subject on ndt.net, i have an issues on application of corrosion mapping in high temperature (73 °C) using Omniscan X2 ( SA12 Probe), what im doing now is to change the coupling after two indication, and its helpful, but i dont want to risk the equipment ( probe ), is there any solution for that problem?

Can you use HydroForm probe for corrosion mapping?

HydroForm might be your solution.
The water delay and constant water feed would keep the heat away from the probe and the water path would give you good results.

Good idea Laurie. Also, the 73 deg C might cause the adhesive on the HydroFORM gaskets to wear out quicker. That's pretty warm but not ridiculous. I'd say just make sure the bag of gaskets is full before the job starts. And setup all the spare parts so they can do quick changes in the field and keep running.

HydroFORM is a great product.

Paul,

about the rough surface ( external corrosion ) we clean the pipe before inspection with bronze hammer and metallic brash, i make the surface clean and i do the inspection,
and about the hydro-form, its not helping, because the surface its very corroded and that make it so hard for the gaskets to stay in shape.

If the surface is very corroded the RexoForm has a 20mm Rexolite delay wedge and it looks like you can order with water feed nozzles.

External corrosion? In that case, get out your grid sheets and your pen probe. You could mess around all day and night fighting with a PAUT setup and get nowhere... or you could just do it old school and get it over with.

Depending on how bad the surface is UT might only be part of the solution.
A straight edge and pit gauge with spot or grid measurements where you can is often the best solution.
RollerForm, HydroForm, RexoForm, small diameter twin or single crystal probes including pen probes, pit gauges and straight edges all have their place but alone none of them will cover every situation.
