NDE on Main Cables of Suspension Bridges

Under a Federal Highways Administration (USA) program, our team is looking for potential NDT techniques that could be used to inspect/monitor for corrosion of wires inside main cables on suspension bridges. These cables can be up to 36" in diameter and contain over 25,000 individual wires. Also, many have a lead paste on the inside. Need to examine the complete main cable from anchor point to anchor point.

We are looking for direct methods (perform monitoring/inspection of the cable structural integrity) and indirect methods (perform monitoring/inspection of conditions that indicate a corrosive environment such as pH levels etc.).

Appreciate any leads as to what technologies might be available or show potential to meet these needs and how to contact the "owner" of the technology to discuss further.

Richard
