Confusion regarding ultrasonic testing in J groove

I am having problems while inspecting J groove weld....there is always twin peaks throughout the weld....and mostly the depth of the those two peaks are 1. ( 40- 45 mm ), 2. ( 30- 36 mm ) [ note : weld thickness= 45 mm , 16 inches diameter ] , need help to understand the origin of those echoes.....thank you.

I'm not sure any of us here are qualified to troubleshoot this based on merely a text description alone.

Is this conventional UT? Phased array? Do you have screenshots, weld diagrams?

I would suggest drawing the weld out with something like ESBeamTool and tracing the paths to the actual weld geometry and probe index position.
