High Speed NDT

Currently, we are using Magnetic Particle Inspection in our heat
treat operation for the detection of quench cracks in automotive
components. Currently, we use an operator to visually inspect
the part, with a less than 100% success rate.

I am looking for alternative (hopefully automated) NDT
techniques which would be able to perform the same function with
a better success rate.

The system would have to be able to cover an area of 0.16 m^2 in
roughly 9 seconds (scanning speed of 18000 mm^2/second).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Could you send Moraine Valley Community College three
or four parts that contain the quench cracks. We have
worked with several Chicago area companies on related
projects. There is no fee. The school works on various
projects so our students can see what goes on the REAL
world of NDT.

Godfrey Hands Ltd is the UK sales agent for several companies offering Resonant Inspection, specifically for testing automotive components.

These tests are whole body tests that evaluate the surface and internal integrity of components (Crack detection and inclusions) as well as detecting components with incorrect hardness in one test.
Tests take varying times, but generally between 1 and 10 seconds should be considered.
