NDT of fastner head

can the head of a fastner be tested for crack after forging using some NDT method? If so how?

They can be very easily tested for the presence of cracks/bursts using wet fluorescent magnetic particle testing(WFMPT),assuming that the fasteners are of ferromagnetic material. This is a fast and reliable method that will detect cracks of even a few microns width when properly applied. Alternately Dye Penetrant testing(PT) also can be used as a stop gap arrangement before you can procure the preffered WFMPT set up.In case the fastners are of non ferromagnetic materials like SS, PT (colour/fluorescent)can only be aplied.

Dear Prakash,

Yes, there are several options. Magnetic Particle Testing is one (I am assuming that the fastener is magnetic). If you need real time high speed testing, you should think of automated UT and or RT. If you can accept batch testing mode, MT and PT (if non-magnetic material is invoved) may be good enough.
