measuring conductivity and permeability

Dear all,

We want to measure the electrical conductivity and the effective magnetic permeability of ferromagnatic samples. The samples typically have a flat site a few cm across. Does anyone know a lab that could do these measurements or know a straight forward method we can set-up ourselves?

Then RLC meter with some mathematics on geometry will do. We have prepared the paper on toroidal samples complex permeability measurement in low frequency range (0.1-10MHz). If interested, I can send you some excerpts.

People do complex permeability measurement at GHz. For instance, refer to:
Jacquart. Influence of the electrical resistivity of a ferromagnetic thin film on its permeability measurement performed with a permeameter. Elsevier Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials 281 (2004) 82–91

I have seen people use alternative current potential drop (ACPD) method for measuring the electrical conductivity and the effective magnetic permeability of ferromagnatic samples at the frequency range of several hundred Hz to 10KHz. Please google it yourself.

Eddy current testing is another option. But to determine conductivity and permeability at the same time is always hard.

I checked with a Queens U Magnetics Department Grad & he suggested: There are many different ways to measure permeability depending on the material and application. For some standard methods visit www.astm.org and search for standards with key words "magnetic permeability".

For the conductivity measurement, Google search phrase "contact resistance tester".
