NDT Software Availability
Overall

Thank you to Ed Ginzel for this excellent review. Your article can be a good starting point to add more software. I remember this one:

http://www.ndt.net/?id=2890
Software tool DREAM for simulating acoustic fields
University Uppsala, Uppsala [Sweden]

More software one may find by using the database search "software" but restrict to keywords only.
http://www.ndt.net/search/docs.php3?MainSource=-1&SearchDocs=software&restrict=keywords
(Search Results: 64)

Also you can find software by check the filter checkbox of the Computer Icon
http://www.ndt.net/search/docs.php3?MainSource=-1&MediaType=1
(Search Results: 7)

Recently we published some Apps releases for smart phones.

Who else can add items for NDT Software Availability?

Rolf

Rolf, thank you for your kind comments. In preparing for the seminar I located an NDT-related website that had a list of some of the software that I put in this list. But when I went to check the links from that NDT-related site nearly all were broken. This suggested to me that such a collection needs maintenance to keep the information current. It would be nice if the list could be expanded by our many forum users, but we should periodically also check that the links are still active.

Dear Ed,
nice collection of links for NDT software, congratulations!

But software for Digital Industrial Radiology is missing. Since more than 10 years we are promoting this technology by development of standards and also simple software, called ISee!. There are free and licensed versions available, see http://dir.bam.de/ic

Also there is a lot of free software in the field of medical radiology waiting to be adapted to the special needs of NDT, e.g. DICOM versus DICONDE etc, see http://www.idoimaging.com

Uwe, I definitely agree! The original plan for this list was to provide a collection of software that was not "NDT data collection" software. Instead, I wanted the list to be the other utility tools we use in NDT. If you (and others) would like to provide me with some of the other options available I can update the table. The list is already a good length, but as we add more perhaps the organisation of the entries should be planned better. If you have any recommendations for a more user-friendly arrangement of the list I would be happy to re-arrange the items and add the new ones. I would like to keep the list without a lot of details that might be considered commercial. With a link to a website the user can decide if the product is appropriate and then request details directly from the supplier.

Ed,
Thank you for putting this together. It provides some otherwise unknown opportunities for us. As always you know what we need.
Please keep up this valuable work.

It is clear that a list of NDT Software in the current format is not possible to maintain to keep it up to date. The use of this comment feature to extend the list is good but also not a solution. We could incorporate a resource in the Virtual Library (http://www.ndt.net/library/library.php3) , however, who will pay for all our programming work while on the other hand vendors would advertise their software for free in this resource?

  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
