Olympus NDT also makes EMAT probes for testing surfaces which have external oxide scale. This scale is used to create the shear waves & its presence is necessary for this low power EMAT. More info can be found here:

You asked about SH wave transducers.
We have numerous different models to serve a host of applications from stress and texture measurement to weld inspection in sheets and pipes.
Other applications include coating integrity and/or bond line evaluations of laminated structures or mechanical property measurement.

Hi Kari,

NDT Consultants Ltd. in the United Kingdom is marketing the MsS Guided Wave Ultrasonic system for inspection of plates and pipes (and wire ropes and rods).
This operates with a Shear Horizontal mode on plate (which becomes a Torsional wave in pipe, bar and rod).

This operates by generating the ultrasound with Electromagnetic means, and can test up to 150 metres from the sensor location under ideal circumstances.

Please note. This is a complete system, not transduecr only, as the technology requires this instrument to function.

Typically, EMAT probes are application specific. BWXT Services NDE group located in Lynchburg, VA USA provides custom development of EMAT probes including EMAT SH wave probes for ferritic components. We have also specialized in phased array EMAT SH wave transducers for ferritic components. We have recently developed the capability of performing rapid finite-element modeling of the electromegnetics and ultrasonics to provide quick design optimization and verification.
