Temperature Effect on UT

Dear Friends,
What is effects of high temperature on sound velocity in matrials .for example in thickness measuring of c.steels on 500 oC what is the changing of actual thickness which detected by UT?

Sound velocity in all engineering materials decreases with temperature. In common steel alloys, the velocity decreases approximately 1% per 55 degrees Celcius. Thus, if you do not compensate for this change, your thickness readings at elevated temperature will be too high.

you can elevate the temperature of your calibration block to 500oC and UT thickness readings will be accurate
