Gamma Plugs

we need some clarification on what or how do Gamma Plugs work.
This is referring to NDE on socket welds or weld O-lets.
Any feed back will help.

Re: Gamma Plugs Steve

You can access the Pipe Fitting Institute standard PFI ES-16 "Access Holes, Bosses, and Plugs for Radiographic Inspection of Pipe Welds" here:

http://www.pfi-institute.org/Product.htm

They are simply acces ports for gamma guide tubes. Not something I have seen used but for low integrity sealed vessels or pipes in sensitive (i.e. public) areas I imagine they facilitate panoramic exposure cutting down greatly on the exposure time (source strength) required by multiple double wall single image shots.

I think you are confused about the socket welds, the access bosses will be threaded and seal welded to the shell or pipe. I imagine any NDE of them will be MT or PT to ensure no porosity/pinholes. in the seal welds.

Regards

Nigel

Re: Gamma Plugs Gamma holes, holes of Dia 20-25mm size thread, and having a threaded plug... can b utilized to take RT (gamma source) through that hole (panaromic exposure in heavy thickness walls in pressure vessels) so that exposure time can be reduced, it can be utilized for viusal inspection using boroscope in Olets.. root inspection..

Re: Gamma Plugs Please, explain what does "gamma plugs" mean.I`m not an engineer, I just have to translate translate from English into Bulgarian a document in which it is written" strength calculation of elbows with gamma plugs". Or maybe you know the above words in Russian or German?
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!
