Phased Array for Stainless Stell welds

Hello people!!!
Does anybody had already tried to do stainless stell weld inspection with phased array??Have any procedure available?
Thank you!

Paulo:
Lot's of companies have inspected stainless steels with phased arrays, and procedures may be available from the right people. if you are looking for contacts, please contact me directly by e-mail. You should also give some specifications, e.g. type of stainless, thickness, expected defects etc.
Yours,
Michael

Paulo:
whether the ultrasound is generated by a single element or a phased array probe the issues for "ultrasonic" inspection for austenitic materials remain the same.

You will still need to assess what the best frequency and wave mode (compression or shear) will be to achieve the results you are trying for. Phased arrays may provide interesting and useful options for beam angle, Tandem techniques and TRL methods but they are still subject to the same issues of scatter and absorption as any mechanical wave pulse.

Some of the conditions that can make ultrasonic evaluation of austenitic stainless steel welds so difficult would not be helped by phased array. Large variations in velcoity and attenuation with changes in direction would cause the phased array to behave quite differently from what would be predicted in more uniform materials. In welds made from one side with one procedure, then back-gouged and the back side done with another procedure, there can be huge differences in acustic properties and a large reflection from the interface. I have sometimes used test specimens with macroetched surfaces and side-driled holes in several locations to painfully sort out an effective technique for manual inspection with several probes. It would be much less difficult to develop a phased array technique in a production environment if it were possible to start working on the inspection as the welding procedures were being developed..

NEW! The PragmaPro Instrument Platform

The PragmaPro is based on a modular cartridge technology and supports various NDT instrument modal
...
ities such as UT, PAUT, ECT and many more. This new platform is based on a machined, powder-coated aluminum frame for shock-proofness, best sealing qualities and maximum heat dissipation. This is practical to extend the outdoor temperature range and/or to extend the power injected in the transducers. The PragmaPro is aiming at a very wide range of applications, such as weld scanning, corrosion mapping and composite testing.
