copper checking

i'm working with the electroplating company
my problem is sometimes the copper that we used in the
electroplating is not same diameter for the whole
length...because somethimes there are linning on the
copper wire....so how to check the copper surface
because very difficult to see it using naked eye and
also impossible to used the microscope because the
copper length is about 10 km and also sometimes after
we get wire breakage...we found that there is a hole
in the copper(like core)seems like the copper is not
solid ...how to prevent it....

You might contact manufacturers of online diameter gauges, some are mentioned in the Tube '96 report.

See at:

....... Laser diameter gauges were very prominent at the show. This technique for inline diameter control is rapidly increasing in popularity, and we saw Laser Mike* at the crowded booth of Beta Instruments (specialists in UT and laser techniques)......

Laser diameter gauges are cheaper than UT but cannot find internal defects.
Ultrasonic flaw detection in conjunction with diameter measurement technique is an applied technique and I personally did some work in this area. Inoex GmbH works in the field of equipment for online control in the plastic and cable industry (see NDTnet Exhibition)
