edm-slots

Dear everyone,

We would like to manufacture edm-slots for testing our eddy current sensors. These sensors are used for inspecting ferromagnetic steel (not magnetically saturated) for surface breaking cracks.

We would like to hear from people having experience with edm slots. How well do they tend to represent real cracks?

A local tool maker is willing to manufacture these slots, but has no experience in this specific application. Can anyone provide clues for manufacturing good slots, like electrode material and design?

Does anyone know of a suitable manufacturer in the Netherlands or Western-Europe?

Thanks for your help, Elmar van den Elzen

Re: edm-slots
Dear Elmar,

EDM slots and notches have been used for years as calibration tools in ET, UT, PT and MT. Some notches are better than others. PH Tool Reference Standards specializes in the manufacture of EDM notch standards and test blocks. I would be happy to help you with this project. Materials to be notched may be provided by the customer if you prefer. These items can be shipped to us from anywhere in the world. NIST traceability of final As-built notch dimensions is obtained from the examination (at high magnification)of replicas. For more info, please visit http://www.phtool.com.
