Hi Temp thickness of enamle on carbon.

Without touching the piece, it is of major interest to know the
thickness of the enamle coating on cast iron. The maximum thickness
is 3mm. The key is to know this thickness at the initial
solidification temp of 1000f...if there is to little, then he can
add (t), this will help reduce the heating cycles and improve
the Quality control. This system can be assemply line driven if
proven reliable. The problems are 1000f and no contact. Emat is
out, contact required! Mag Lift off...no! UT..2 TO 3 mm at 1000f,
I don't know? Could Infrared be of some help or other optical
method? This one is giving me a hard time of it!!!!

I saw something recently where laser ultrasonics was used to measure
wet paint thickness. Perhaps it would also work here.

Be carefully by measuring under such hot conditions.
You can get calibration errors of sound velocity, also
the circumferential temperature may not be equal.
There is a company 'MOOG-BUHL AUTOMATION' which supplied
ultrasonic in this field, but measured more down the line.
