Intelligent pigging of fired heaters

We are planning to carry out intelligent pigging of fired heater in our refinery. I would like to know the experience of this technique in Crude Heater/Vacuum Heater/Hydrocracker Heaters - what are the practical problems faced at site? How reliable is the data ? What is the cleaning requirement for the coils etc?

Any input is welcome.

Re: Intelligent pigging of fired heaters
Good Day Mr. Rajaram,

I’ve been involved in providing intelligent pigging inspection services into serpentine fired heaters for well over a decade. In the early days when the technology was young there was a steep learning curve. Today the technology and application process/procedures are well established. Today our company applies intelligent pigging in nearly 300 heaters each year on a global basis. Every heater design and coil configuration imaginable has been inspected over the last +10 years with this technology. Companies such as BP, Chevron, Marathon, ConocoPhillips, Shell, Total, Aramco, etc., etc., etc. utilize this technology on an ongoing basis. Hopefully you will receive additional responses from these guys elaborating on their experiences utilizing the technology. We are also very happy to provide you with a very lengthy of several hundred customer references if required.

Regards, Rich

  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
