Re: oxie layer measurment in boiler tube
The specific answer to your question depends on which gage and transducer you are using. Please provide that additional information. If you're using Panametrics-NDT products I can help with the setup, and if you're using something from one of our competitors perhaps someone from that company can step in.

In general, you will always measure from the echo representing the steel/oxide boundary to the echo representing the inside of the oxide layer, so gates are set for detection of those echoes. Some typical waveforms can be found in the application note at the link below.

Whether the Boiler is Fired Tube or Water Tube the best method to be used for measuring the whole length of tube (except bends) is by Internal Rotary Inspection System (IRIS). Spot ultrasonic thickness measurement not good method for boiler tubes only area you could access.

The Olympus NDT / Panametrics 37DL Plus has a feature that handles this, please contact your local sales rep and they can show you the way out of your dilemma.

: If you only want to measure thickness of oxide layer try using coating thickness gauge, we use it on stainless steel cladded to steel plate for production oil tanker. We tried using "A" Scan but failed.

Maybe I misunderstood you for wanted to measure boiler tube thickness.

mances of portable X-Ray sets. Despite having managed to halve the weight of similar portable X-Ray generators available on the market (while continuing to provide the same power output), the SITEX CPSERIES generators feature a shutter, a laser pointer, a beryllium window, an aluminum filter and two integrated diaphragms (customized sizes are available upon request). Without compromising the robustness and reliability for which ICM products are renowned, the small size and light weight of the SITEX CPSERIES will radically change the way that you perform your RT inspections. And you will see a positive impact in terms of both quality and return on investment (ROI).
