Beam profile in solids

Dear collegues,

I need some suggestions on basical bibliographic reference
about the calculation of the variations in the ultrasonic beam
width for a focussed probe during a water-steel transition.

Thanks in advance

You can find a basic discussion of this topic, along with relevant equations, in the American Society for Nondestructive Testing "Nondestructive Testing Handbook", Volume 7 (Ultrasonics), pages 258-261.

A much more detailed theoretical analysis is available in a Panametrics technical paper entitled "Inportant Characteristics of Ultrasonic Transducers and Factors Related to their Application" by Fowler, Hotchkiss, and Yamartino. This is available on request from Panametrics; inquiries may be made through our web site at www.panametrics.com
