SUBJECT: Internal Bore Inspection of REFORMER TUBES
QUEST currently applies our laser based inspection technology (LOTIS) to gauge internal bores of reformer tubes in many countries around the world. In addition to regular preventative maintenance inspections, QUEST has applied the LOTIS technology to perform base line exams both while tubes are vertically hanging in the harp and while still in the horizontal position at the tube mill before shipping to the customers plant site.
LOTIS gathers approximately 2.2 million readings over the full length in only a few minutes per tube. During base line exams, flaws such as a) Over Dimensional Boring, b) Under Dimensional Boring, c) Weld Root Pass Lack Of Penetration (LOP), d) Suck Back at the Weld Root Pass, e) Too Large Root Pass Hanging Into Tube, f) Start/Stop Boring Gouges, g) etc. can be easily identified. Applying this LASER technique has the advantages of extreme high resolution and accuracy.
QUEST has designed custom software designed specifically for reformer tube inspection, which allows the customer to view the whole reformer tube network or individual tubes in 3-Dimensional (3D) format. This information is used by plant engineers to assist in balancing the reformer to reduce concentrated damage.
