Mechanical Gauging Of Reformer Tubes

We are trying to locate a company that makes mechanical ID gauging tools for 4" typical reformer tubes. We believe there was a company in Machester Uk who made such tools does anyone know a contact name, address etc.

SUBJECT: Internal Bore Inspection of REFORMER TUBES

QUEST currently applies our “laser based” inspection technology (LOTIS) to gauge internal bores of reformer tubes in many countries around the world. In addition to regular “preventative maintenance” inspections, QUEST has applied the LOTIS technology to perform “base line” exams both while tubes are vertically hanging in the harp and while still in the horizontal position at the tube mill before shipping to the customers plant site.

LOTIS gathers approximately 2.2 million readings over the full length in only a few minutes per tube. During “base line” exams, flaws such as a) Over Dimensional Boring, b) Under Dimensional Boring, c) Weld Root Pass Lack Of Penetration (LOP), d) Suck Back at the Weld Root Pass, e) Too Large Root Pass Hanging Into Tube, f) Start/Stop Boring Gouges, g) etc. can be easily identified. Applying this “LASER” technique has the advantages of extreme high resolution and accuracy.

QUEST has designed custom software designed specifically for reformer tube inspection, which allows the customer to view the “whole” reformer tube network or “individual” tubes in 3-Dimensional (3D) format. This information is used by plant engineers to assist in balancing the reformer to reduce concentrated damage.
