Acid etch of High Temp steel for grinding burns

Does anyone know of an ASTM or other standard which describes this process?

Thanks,

Bill

it has been my experince that a 5% nital solution will do the trick. or 5% nitol the difference being the alchol as methnol is now considered an enviromential hazard. or 5% nitric and distilled deionized water. BUT WATCH OUT, IF YOU MIX THESES CHEMICALS WRONG YOU CAN CAUSE ADVERSE REACTIONS LIKE AN EXPLOSION. So take the time read the information on the web or from a supplier.
Ok back to the grinder burn any of these will show a localized grinder burn to the visable eye. providing the surface is smooth enough. Dress with 1000 grit wet sanding paper. Before performing the etch.
Check with ASTM E 305 this may be applicable
