how to measure the pundit signal

:can anybody tell me on how to measure the ultrasonic signal through the oscilloscope. i'm using 37 kHz frequency transmitter and receiver of PUNDIT. I let them face to face with several cm air gab between them. but, the signal from the oscilloscope keep changing (i want to measure the signal amplitude, the higheast peak after the initial pulse). This problem cause the measurement be inaccurate as the different amplitude value will be obtained after i made the several measurement. Am i must stopped the signal?Or can i take the average value by sweeeping the signal?I used the Le-Croy Osciiloscope. Thank you..
