Re: NDT Certification Paul,
NDT certification has two major divisions, viz central certification (CC) (EN 473, ACCP, ASNT NDT 3) and employer-based (EB)certification (SNT-TC-1A, CP189). Generally, the first is portable and 'belongs' to the qualified technician, the second lasts only whilst in the employ of the certifying organisation and 'belongs' to the employer.
CC is administered by a national body, usually the national NDT society (BINDT, DGZfP, ASNT) which in turn authorises nd approves test centres and training schools.
With EB the one mandatory requirement is that the employer must develop a written practice describing training, qualification and certification of its NDT personnel. This WP should be an intagralm part of the company's quality system/documentation and as such authorised by the CEO.
Otherwise CC and EB systems are quite similar - they stipulate hours of formal classroom training and months of work experience required before able to sit basic and specific method exams for increasing levels of responsibility (1, 2 and 3)
this is a simplification but is designed to make you aware of the essential diffeernece between the two types of systems. Hope this helps.
