To detect initiation of high temp creep - crack

Hello colleagues,

We are interested in detecting the initiation of crack due to high temp.
creep / low cycle fatigue, and further study its growth.

Temp. upto 1500 C

At present we are measuring the crack length after the test (after
prescribed number of load cycles. We would like to know when the crack has
initiated and also its growth rate.

Can any one offer suitable sensors / strain gauges / techniques.

We have tried acoustic emission techniques. But the signal to noice ratio
was extremely poor and could not makeout any thing.

Thank you

Babu Rao
