Re: NDT salary scales
No doubt, the PFNDT Salary Survey offers comprehensive breakdowns.
But it was conducted in the US only and does not
recognizes NDT method certification and level.
For that reason I would appreciate if our current
global NDT salary survey would receive many inputs.
You can win a prize! Thanks to AIPND we can offer five CD-ROMs for the drawing.
Please give us your input at http://www.ndt.net/exhibit/survey/salary/salary.htm

Re: NDT salary scales
NDT Technicians salary rates is something that we have more than a passing interest in at NDTCabin.

However there are many problems with trying to make any type of comparison between countries.

A lot of UK technicians are employed in the Netherlands and Germany, because the low rate of pay
in the UK, makes them attractive to Dutch and German
employers. However, of late the strength of sterling
has meant that this competative advantage has been
eroded.

Volatile exchange rates are not the only problem. Many technicians are self-employed, or are on short
term contracts. They are paid a fixed hourly rate
that covers accomodation, food and travelling
expenses. This rate can be very different from full
time employees.

As a rule of thumb, ndt pay rates, reflect the strength of the econonomy in that country. Top rates
can be found in Canada (helped by fixed union rates),
the USA and Germany. Next comes Holland, France
and the UK. With the poorer third world countries,
bottom of the ladder.

Regional differences inside a country also have a major impact. An MPI inspector living in the North East of England can be had for as little as £5 per hour. The same inspector in South of England will
earn £8+ per hour.

So many variables (and controversy) there Gavin. Dave's comments about the U.K. may be accurate but note that is for a tech with an MPI ticket only (presumably level II). He'll be lucky to get any work at all with the number of multi-techs on the market! Highly experienced manual UT techs on power outages can command about £15 - £18 per hour. Also some of the traditional NDT methods are gradually being superseded by automated inspection where there is a division between "data-capturers" and "data analysts". Recent offshore pay for these two categories has been between £135 and £185 per day. Your profile says you are considering personnel supply. If you can match or top these rates for a highly-experienced Level III multi-tech, or even can offer work in beautiful S. Africa on reasonable rates, please drop me a line!

Hope this is of some help.

Regards

nigel

NDTCabin Salary Survey
There is obviously a considerable interest in
salary scales amongst the global NDT community.

As the purpose of NDTCabin is to provide a useful
resource for "hands-on" NDT, then we are now actively considering launching what probably will be the first ever global NDT Salary Survey.

This will be a time consuming an expensive project
for us, so if there is such a global survey elsewhere, we would certainly appreciate knowledge of its existance.

We would also be interested in hearing from any companies who might want to sponsor the survey.

Re: NDTCabin Salary Survey
We have a NDT Salary Survey under construction for one of the next journal issues.
As usual we'll offer prizes for participants.
Of course we are also interested in sponsors of this survey.
Please contact me if you have any question.

Best regards

es place circumferentially or “around the curve” for applications such as inspection of longseam welds in piping and vessels. Jointly designed by PH Tool and Holloway NDT, the blocks feature side-drilled hole reflectors positioned within novel compound-curves, each with multiple thickness steps. The unique design results in a light and compact form factor, with the largest block weighing just over 15 lbs and spanning just 16 ¾”. Coverage is provided for nominal pipe sizes from 6” to 10” in the small block and 12” to a whopping 56” in the large block. The compound OD curves and multiple wall thicknesses actually exceed ASME requirements, providing exceptional signal response and measurement accuracy. Properly managing beam divergence off the ID and stabilizing beam skew due to probe rocking is essential to maintaining a consistent calibration when inspecting lengthwise on curved surfaces.
