| 23:24 Aug-13-2009 drill collar elevator inspection What is the requirement for full service on these?
We usually just receive them from customer and perform a fluorescent mpi using a yoke, I think they perform functional tests such as checking latches and load test of lugs.
What specs are used?
Can eddy current be used as an alternative to MPI?
thanks |

The specification is the API Spec 8B.Spec specified MPI .
Depends on working time you need to perform a 6 month or yearly inspection. For the 6 month inspection the elevator need not to be disassembled and only the accessible load bearing zone need to be inspected. For the yearly inspection the elevator need to be disassembled and 100% of service need to be inspected.
Remark: Before I inspect something ,I should know the specification for the inspection ,otherwise how you know the acceptance criteria etc.

Thanks.
Is the acceptance criteria in the API spec?
Thats why Im looking into these things as there is a couple of things we test regular that we dont have the best procedures for.
WECO connections is another one? |

See, the crack might happen at any where during handling, so the client will ask the costumer to do inspection before and during drilling. Its very difficult to say what spec. using for inspection. Usually costumer asks us to find crack.
No, eddy current inspection can be done on painted surface. it need proper caliberation. But in MPI surface must be clean with out any particles. As a matter of fact we wont get it clean(with out paint). We get the surface with more than 3 or more coats of paint. Both have its own limits.
This is my opinion. I don't know about others. |

GET THE SPEC AND YOU WILL SEE:

Andreas
PS: No cracks aloud and dimension on load bearing port. |

When we get them they are usually shot blasted so this is good.
And we use the "no cracks" or "severe mechnical damage" as the acceptance criteria.
Dont find much else anyway. |

Thats why the spec secified the inspection intervall as guide , the inspection intervall can be shorten to.
Also stated the spec that you need to fellow the recomendation of the manufacturer and he you supply you als with drawings of the critical areas.

What's about the dimension of the so called ears and the allowance of play on the center pin etc.
Get the spec read them and work according to them and fellow also the requirements of the manufacturer and of the owner or user when given.
Anyway I surprise that elevator are used foe the handling of drill collars.

Drill collars can attach with oilfield equipments. Drilling machine is important working equipment for used heavy pressure drilling tools and machine for work. |

NEW! The PragmaPro Instrument PlatformThe PragmaPro is based on a modular cartridge technology and supports various NDT
instrument modal ... ities such as UT, PAUT, ECT and many more. This new platform is
based on a machined, powder-coated aluminum frame for shock-proofness, best sealing
qualities and maximum heat dissipation. This is practical to extend the outdoor
temperature range and/or to extend the power injected in the transducers. The
PragmaPro is aiming at a very wide range of applications, such as weld scanning,
corrosion mapping and composite testing. > Varex Imaging Large Field of View (FOV) Digital Detector Arrays (DDAs)A larger FOV DDA can reduce the space and volume of the X-ray inspection system on the factory floor ... , enable faster scanning times, better throughput and better resolution images at a lower dose. Customers can also save time and money. With these benefits in mind, Varex Imaging has designed a family of large FOV detectors (4343HE, XRD 1611, 4343DX-I, 4343CT) for our industrial imaging customers. > Compact NDT inspection-heads for measurements with active thermographyThe compact inspection head is suitable for thermographic ndt
tasks. The uncooled infrared camera ... is specially developed for
NDI-tasks and offers a thermal sensitivity until now known only
from thermal imagers with cooled detector. All required
components and functions are integrated into the inspection-head.
You will only need an ethernet cable to connect the sensor with
the evaluation system.
> Lyft™: Pulsed Eddy Current ReinventedPEC Reinvented—CUI Programs Redefined
Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is possibly the greatest u ... nresolved
asset integrity problem in the industry. Current methods for
measuring wall thickness with liftoff, without removing insulation,
all have severe limitations. Eddyfi introduces Lyft — a reinvented,
high-performance pulsed eddy current (PEC) solution. The patent-
pending system features a state-of-the-art portable instrument, real-
time C-scan imaging, fast data acquisition with grid-mapping and
dynamic scanning modes, and flexibility with long cables. It can also
scan through thick metal and insulation, as well as aluminum,
stainless steel, and galvanized steel weather jackets. Who else but
Eddyfi to reinvent an eddy current technique and redefine CUI
programs. Got Lyft? > |
