Pitting Corrossion Temper Etch

We have a pitting corrosion issue during a temper etch process. The pitting is occurring in the 4% nitric acid & water bath. The bath also has JAR-3N. The pitting occurs on M50 nitrided tool tool rings only. The standard M50 tool steel has no issues with pitting corrosion. These pits occur within 20 to 90 seconds.
