Bacteria, viruses and toxins detection in food or beverage

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for NDT technologies that could be used to rapidly detect and identify pathogen bacteria, viruses and toxins in food or beverage products (i.e. Salmonella, E. coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Shigella, Cyclospora, Cryptosporidium,...).

I am aware of «polymerase chain reaction» methods (PCR) but not interested by these techniques. Preferably, the apparatus or technologies I am looking for must be portable and in-situ. In all cases, they must be capable of detecting within a maximum of 24 hours but preferably in minutes and allow to distinguish between the harmless bacteria and the ones that represent a threat to consumer’s health.

Vincent...try a portable blacklight. Some cultures fluoresce. A local dairy used this as an aid to periodic cleaning of components.

As a former wastewater treatment operator, I would suggest you look at some of the methods that wastewater treatment plants use to detect those same types of pathogens.
