 | 08:33 Dec-26-2009 sitescan 240 Dear All,
Happy new year!
I have sitescan 240, and I have a problem to apply it in order to thickness measurements. I could not find the solution from its manual.
I set the range in 100 (for example) it means that every unite in horizontal axis is supposed to be 10 mm. However when I want to check the calibration with 20mm side of reference block, the raising edge is appeared not exactly on second unit of horizontal axis.
we had a length sweep in krautkramer to adjust it, however I do not know, what should I do for site scan 240. Could you please guide me?
Best Thansk,

Please check the year of purchase and calibration of the unit. Look for the Authorised OEM approved calibration centre to check the linearity issue. Sonatest Authorised Calibration centre has software assited calibration for all their digital UFDs. You can also contact Sonatest and send your unit for Calibration. Your issue will be solved

Hi Mehdi
I'm am sorry for any confusion here, It doesn't sound like the instrument needs electrical recalibration,, although if this is due then Poyeshar should be able to handle it in Tehran. They should be your first point of call for support. Normally I would agree with Simons suggestion of sending it back to us in the UK, But you will understand this can be problematic at the moment. as obtaining the necessary documentation to return equipment to Iran is quite time-consuming.
To make a fine adjustment of the display range a long press on the range softkey will toggle between coarse and fine adjustment
In general for measurements you should use the internal gate, rather than relying on the display. Set the gate to a suitable position on the display and the measurement mode to 'depth' set gate mode to 'flank'
To calibrate for a probe on two thicknesses of metal.
1. Set the velocity to an appropriate nominal value (e.g 5930 m/s for carbon steel)
2. On the thinner piece adjust probe delay to get the desired value.
3. On the thicker piece adjust velocity for the correct value
4. Repeat 2 and 3 until no further adjustment is required.
Later versions of the 240 software have an AUTO-CAL function that will do this for you.
Good luck.
Joe

HI Beket
I no longer work for Sonatest, so I cannot help with the service questions, and unfortunately I do not have a copy of the 240 manual, however if you have the 340 operation is nearly identical (The 340 has a few more features and higher frequency capability)
I would suggest contacting Sonatest directly, hopefully they will be able to assist.
All the best
Joe
