free software for wavelet analysis and dispersion curve calculation

Hello everybody

free software available:

1) AGU-Vallen Wavelet
In cooperation with Aoyama Gakuin University, Japan, we
developed a software tool to calculate the wavelet transform
from AE signals. The wavelet transform reveals which part of a
signal carries energy at which frequencies. More information can
be found at www.vallen.de/wavelet
We provide this software free of charge to support further
research and development in this field.

3) Vallen Dispersion
Allows you to calculate the possible wavemodes in a plate,
based on (bulk) longitudinal and transversal speed of sound and
the plate thickness.

the AGU-Vallen Wavelet software can also import ASCII data (from whatever method it comes).

Hi,

AGU-Vallen Wavelet is not specific to AE, virtually all time series data (import filter for ASCII format included, see Helptext) can be processed as the origin of the data is not evaluated. We know that people use it to analyze data from ultrasonics, climate changes (covering centuries), earthquakes,... and many more.

I have a set data of 1975 numbers of data with the time interval of 2.03E-07. I have used the vallen wavelet to create tra file and the graph shown a straight line. I do have checked on my data and it is correct. In fact, the graph should be showing some peaks instead of straight line. Anyone can help?

Dear Yew,

I don't know Vallen .tra file creator/converter but I would guess that you have a problem with the datatype that, AFAIK, should be int16 and you are probably passing something like float32/float64.
Another option is to move from Vallen software and take your own path with other solutions. There are many other tools out there to perform Wavelet transform. Some examples are:

- Matlab + Wavelet toolbox
- Octave + Wavelab850 (Open Source)
- Python + PyWavelet (Open Source)
