Corrosion on carbon steel

Is there somebody can provide me, some information about NDE to evaluate the corrosion on carbon steel area in a Ti cladded carbon steel tube sheet of heat exchanger through his stainless steel tubes?

thank you in advance

Re: Corrosion on carbon steel
The DINSEARCH DS100 is designed to detect and evaluate corrosion damage of carbon steel heat exchanger tubes. Normally, these tubes are entirely carbon steel and the equipment detects corrosion on both the inside and the outside of the tube. Dinsley Devices Ltd. have evaluated, and on rare occasions used, the equipment on carbon steel tubes that are lined with brass or bronze. While the equipment can need some adjustment that has to be made by the manufacturer, the DINSEARCH DS100 has successfully detected and evaluated corrosion damage both on the outside of the lined tubes and in the carbon steel at the interface between lining and carbon steel. There is good reason to believe that the equipment would also be successful on carbon steel tubes that have a Ti lining or some of the many types of stainless steel. We would be willing to assess performance on receipt of suitable samples.

Re: Corrosion on carbon steel
Seems as though this would be a good application for magnetic flux leakage (MFL) inspection. If I remember correctly R/D Tech (http://www.rd-tech.com)makes a system that might be applicable.

Conformable wedge transducer

The conformability is obtained with a flexible membrane filled with water between the transducer and

ISAFE3 Intrinsically Safe Sensor System

ISAFE3 intrinsically safe sensor system of Vallen Systeme is especially targeted at the petrochemica
...
l - as well as oil and gas transportation industry. The sensor system is designed for permanent monitoring or periodic inspection tasks. Sensors are available for different AE-frequency ranges optimized for corrosion and fatigue crack detection and other applications. The ISAFE 3 sensor system consists of an AE-sensor (model ISAS3) certified according to ATEX/IEC for installation in zone 0, gas group IIC, IP68, 20 to +60 °C, and a signal isolator (model SISO3) certified for installation in zone 2. An ISAS3 sensor can be mounted in atmosphere or submerged, e.g. in water or crude oil. It is supported by mounting tools for temporary (magnets) or permanent (welded) installation. ISAFE3 supports automatic sensor coupling test and can be used with any AE signal processor supporting 28V supply at 90 mA peak, e.g. Vallen Systeme ASIP-2/A.
