PCB (Bare Board) test Equipment

My name is Spiros Pagratis and I work for the QA department of INTRACOM S.A (which is sited in Greece) .

I am interested for some information about PCB automated (non-destructive) equipment.
Prefferably a machine that can perform, based on loaded Gerber Files, optical, dimensional and non-desrtuctive structural inspections on multy-layered printed circuit-boards (even for more complex technologies such us BGAs).

For the time being Visual Inspection in our company's Incoming Inspection is
performed visually, with the aid of magnifying lenses, when it is necessary.

Dimensional Inspection is performed by measuring the dimensions as specified
in the Mechanical Drawing included in the Manufacturing Tooling File. The
inspector defines a datum point to which all measurements are reffered. The
measurement unit is mm or inches. The plated or non-plated through
measurements are perfomed with an holemeter and refference to the Opticall
Drilling Aid. The thickness of the pcb is reffered to the Manufacturing
Tooling File.

Microsection inspection is perfomed by dettaching a coupon from a specific
area of a pcb and mounting it in a microsection specimen. The specimen will
be then grinded and polished and microscope inspection will be performed.
Measurement unit is µm.

Evaluation of all the aforementioned inspections is performed with
refferenece to IPC standard, Manufacturing Tooling File and Customer
Requirements.

The presentation attached illustrates various defects detected during the
Visual, Dimensional & Microsection Inspections.

Our main requirement is to define a machine that can performe all the above
inspections and/or measurents in refference with the IPC Standard & the
Manufacturing Tooling File. In case this is inevitable, please notify us if
there is any combination of machine that can perform most of the inspections
required. We would imagine of machine more sophisticated than an AOI or
X-RAY.

If such a machine "exists":

- it is necessary to perform visual and dimensional inspections in
accordance to the Gerber Files provided.
- ability of taking pictures (file format that can be processed)
illustrating the defects spotted.
- Defects recording and software statistical analysis ability.

We remain at you disposal for any further information.

Best Regards
