In a nutshell: MFL uses permanent magnets with all the possible problems associated such as breakage, collection of debris, difficulty in smoothly transiting surfaces that are irregular, etc. LF Electromagnetic techniques require more sophisticated coil excitation circuitry with its associated filtration requirements due to LF noise, lower scan speeds to reduce missing anomolies, etc.
