equivalent wire IQI sensitivity

If an ASME plague type penetrameter of a thickness of 2% of the specimen thickness under test is used and the 4T hole is the only hole visible is it right to claim 2% IQI sensitivity. Article 2 of ASME 5 in the appendix section appears to bear this fact up in the wire equivalence table however having talked to various people in the UK they seem to indicate that the 2T hole must be seen even if a plague thickness representing 2% is used. The 4T hole would only indicate a sensitivity of around 2.6%. Can anybody give me further guideance or is this a long standing difference in interpretation between US & European thinking

US standards define the acceptance IQI sensitivity in term of e.g. "2-2T" in which "2" stands for the thickness of IQI with regard to the "material" thickness of interest and "2T" denotes "the hole size of the IQI" is what I have been understanding until now.

You are correct and most Europeans do not read the code properly plus they are hung up on the figure 2% sensitivity which does not appear anywhere in ASME.

ASME is quite clear it tells you you must see a specified hole on a specified thickness. The equivelent penetrameter sensitivity table goes on to say that when you do not have the correct hole IQI you can use the one listed in the EPS Table. Simple no calculations involved.
