RAIL INSPECTION

Hi people! I work at Metro de Santiago and I need info about devices for inspecting rails. And systems for marking iron pieces for traceability. I checked meccomark.com but they do not answer the emails...maybe webmaster problems.

Thanks for your time!
Jorge

I suggest you contact Sperry Rail (in CT) or Herzog (in MO) as two places to find more information about rail inspection equipment and/or services. Unless I'm mistaken, Sperry inspects the New York subway system, which could have immediate relevance to your concerns.

Re: RAIL INSPECTION
Hello Jorge...

you can contact Malcom Russell or David Alleyne from Guided Ultrasonics Ltd. UK they develop a system based on guided ultrasonic waves no modify for rail inspection ; - system call GU-Rail

There webside : www.guided-ultrasonics.com

Also there is a very nice company spezilize for crack detection and sizing ( depth and dimension !!! ) called TSC Ltd. in the UK.

You can call Martin Lugg or David Topp ( Manager & PHD)

There webside : www.tscinspectionsystems.com

If you more help please drop me a line !

Re: RAIL INSPECTION
Hi Gorge
If you would like to contact me, I would be happy to discuss NDE methods for rail testing. I have designed some of the ultrasonic rail test systems that are used throughout Australia and the USA. Ultrasonic NDE is the most common approach, but it really depends on the types of defect you're looking for (head, web, foot, surface, internal), if your doing spot checks (welds, bolt holes, etc.) or continuous, automated inspection along the track, or if you're testing individual lengths of new or used rail.
Cheers
Steve

oved signal to noise ratio, characterize, size and analyze defects better with access to several wave mode views and save raw FMC data for higher quality analysis.  Some of the benefits are:
  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
