Ultrasonic inspection of as-cast products

What is the best wavemode, frequency, sensor diameter to look for longitudinal cracks and shroud porosity on as-cast products such as slabs and billets from a steel mill? we are trying to inspect a 150mm square billet but cannot see the backwall reflection (there seems to be a lot of scattering). Any ideas?

DEAR FRIEND,
I THINK FOR YOUR TEST CONDITION,NORMAL PROBE WITH OVER 24mm.Dia.(LONGITUDINAL WAVE),0.25-1 MHZ FREQUENCY IS
WELL.YOU CAN ON-REGECT SWITCH FOR OMITTED OR DECREASE NOISE ON DISPLAY(CRT/LCD).HIGH DAMP PROBE MAY HELP YOU
FOR PREVENT OF NOISE EFFECTS.
