Re: New method for detection CUI

: On Michael Twomery's article it is mentioned that originally it appeared in the Dec 1996 issue of the Inspectioneering Journal. It is possible that today other methods are available or undergoing investigations. In our ASNT '97 Fall conference report we reviewed the use of Ultrasonic Guided Waves for CUI [1].

: I anticipate that the new book [2] of an NTIAC's work will be a comprehensive state-of-the-art report on CUI.
: We will update this information also at our Publication department.

: Rolf Diederichs

One aspect of the real time radiography described by Twomery is that
the imaged area is small (about one inch in diameter). This leads to a
large POD for large CUI defect and a low POD for pitting. Also
the scan pattern will affect POD. A choice for delagging or real time
X-ray would require some knowledge on POD. Has someone made a study
of this?

Does anyone have useful information with respect to using this equipment in line with pipe wall thickness surveys

SONOAIR - air-coupled Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection System

For highly attenuating materials, the performance of the system is critical. The ultrasonic sensors,
...
the scanning area and the system settings should be flexibly adapted to the test task and the material. These high expectations are met with the new and modular testing system SONOAIR. With the world’s first air-coupled phased-array UT inspection system SONOAIR we developed a technology that works with up to 4 transmitter and receiver channels with freely configurable square wave burst transmitters as wells as low noise receiving amplifiers.
