Specific interest in Advanced Coatings for High Efficient Energy Systems, Protective Coatings for Industrial Components and Sensors Thin Films for Smart Structures. Involved in production and characterization of thin coatings for industrial applications, using Physically Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Plasma Spraying (PS) techniques. Experimental study and numerical modelling of residual stresses and adherence of ceramic multilayered coatings for protective purposes at high temperature. Failure mechanisms (delamination, spalling, interface defects, cracking)of coatings and multilayered composites (eg. for gas turbines engines, aircraft applications). Study of the oxidation/corrosion in ceramic multilayered coatings deposited on high temperature alloys. Numerical methods (Finite Element and Finite Difference) applied to the modelization of thermo-mechanical behavior of functional coatings. Surface inspection and mechanical properties of coated components by non-destructive methods. Deposition and modelling of optical behaviour of thin coatings for spectrally selective solar applications, such as composite solar absorbers and layered electrochromic devices for smart windows. Thin films and coatings for subjective sensors to be used in smart structures and/or for special technological applications where thin coatings sensors are necessary for miniaturisation under in-situ and real time monitoring process controlled. (eg. gas detectors, artificial noses, temperature and heat flux transducers, etc.)
