Key word: Dosimeters are measuring instruments for the definition of a dose or the power of a dose of ionizing radiation. Personal dosimeters worn on the body are employed in industry and in other fields as well where ionizing radiation occurs.
External and internal influences can lead to a fluctuation within certain limits of the power values of an X-ray system. The environment's temperature or fluctuations in the power supply circuit and process warmth can, for instance, change the tension and intensity of current created by the generator. The adjusted values for tension and intensity of current are not allowed to change if the dosimeters are to be calibrated in a reliable manner. On the contrary; they have to be kept precise and stable. Thanks to an ingenious steering technology for the generator system, YXLON's highly reliable X-ray system in Braunschweig, equipped with a 450 kV tube, remains stable and precise in spite of these interferences.
"No other system offered on the market was able to achieve the requested precision and stability", states Dr. Wilhelm Niemann, Director of the development department for components at YXLON. And he confidently adds, "From the technological point of view we are the world leaders with our steering technology for X-ray generators".
Precise X-ray systems are generally applied - apart from calibration - in order to obtain comparable measurement values. For instance, highly constant X-ray systems are used in civil use of nuclear energy in order to meet legally imposed control conditions: The content of plutonium of burned fuel elements is quantified with a special X-ray method. You can, for example, check the remains of plutonium in the fuel circle. A further example: Highly reliable systems are an essential pre-condition for computerized axial tomography which X-rays a body to be tested within the defined steps to always meet the same conditions.
