Applus RTD confirms Bengt Eide as Offshore projects directorApplus RTD 77, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Applus RTD has appointed Bengt Eide as offshore projects operations director for the UKCS and Norwegian North Sea, as part of the ongoing merger of its UK, Irish and Scandinavian operations.
Eide, 49, who is based between Aberdeen and Stavanger, steps up to become offshore projects director alongside his role as business unit manager for Applus RTD in Scandinavia, as the firm increases its focus on supporting operations on maturing assets in the region.
He leads the company's offshore projects team covering inspection, maintenance and repair operations in the upstream and downstream oil and gas exploration and production sector in the UK and Norwegian continental shelf areas. The firm also delivers services to the power sector, water and associated utilities, pipelines and shipping.
A highly experienced oil and gas professional, Eide started his energy career in Aberdeen with OIS, working on the Ekofisk project in 1983, and most recently held a senior role within Aker Solutions.
Extending the operational life of FPSOs, rigs and other key assets through asset integrity services including traditional and advanced non-destructive testing (NDT and A-NDT) and fabric maintenance programmes are key growth areas for Applus RTD, says Eide.
"The industry is focussing on ensuring ageing assets can continue to operate safely as oil and gas production and exploration intensifies worldwide, particularly in mature regions such as the North Sea," says Eide. As more case studies are developed that deliver measureable value to our customers we will also extend the work to other key offshore areas in the Americas, Africa and Asia.
"At Applus RTD we have the capability to deliver operational life extensions for key assets such as FPSOs without the need to remove them from service, assisting operators and service companies in maximising efficiency and profitability.
"Reducing non-productive time is one of the biggest challenges facing the industry and our role is to deliver solutions to the issues which lead to production ceasing on assets worldwide.
"It is an exciting time for the business our research and development team is the acknowledged global leader in NDT and A-NDT, while we have expanded our specialist on and offshore maintenance team, including 30 people targeted specifically at the FPSO and drilling rig market."
Applus RTD employs more than 4,000 people in 37 countries and its north-west Europe business unit is centred on two major offices in the UK, at Aberdeen and Falkirk, as well as five further regional sites including Teesside and Great Yarmouth. It also operates from bases in Stavanger, Norway and Esbjerg, Denmark, with a further divisional office in Copenhagen.
Included in the UK operation is the company's specialist rope access training facility, at Falkirk, which is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for the discipline, responsible for producing experts in testing, maintenance and monitoring at height key disciplines in work on rigs and FPSOs.
