|Since 1996 NDT.net’s server is hosted by a German company called Teuto.Net. Teuto.Net delivers reliable services and provides our users with a fast access to the NDT.net services via fast Internet backbone worldwide. Recently a frequent move to a modern server hardware and software was necessary as access traffic and downloads increased significantly every month to more than 200GB during the last years. |
In moving our server we have accomplished the following two major advantages.
Supporting Multilingual Characters by UTF-8
The new server and the MYSQL database work with UTF-8 character set which enables the usage of more complex letters than Latin. Now we can publish in all world languages and make the content searchable. In fact our motivation to apply this feature was the error free display of biographical data of east European languages. The Defektoskopie proceedings (in Czech),that we have already published for several Years, are now displayed without any errors.

Supporting Search Results by Relevance

The full-text search offers now the sorting by relevance feature without the need to access a different search to look for relevance results. The user can search via one entire database search and can choose between different sorting options newest, oldest, session and relevance. The search logic "and, or and phrase" are extended to a new option "whole word".
The following example demonstrates by the first 3 results the differences of a search for "austenitic" that delivers 589 results:
